American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) soldiers firing a mortar during training in France in World War 1. The mortar team members pass a shell from one to another, cleaning, and arming it on the way. The last man drops it into the mortar and it fires. Immediately afterwards, as if in response to a gas alarm, they .quickly don gas masks then resume firing.
