Views from a B-17 of U.S. 8th Air Force on its way back to England, after bombing mission over Germany during World War 2. The formation of B-17s is attacked by German FW-190s and ME-110 fighter planes. B-17 gunners shoot one down. They shoot down two more FW-190s and then an ME-110, which explodes in a ball of fire. An attacking German FW-190 is suddenly intercepted by a British Spitfire over the British Channel, and retreats. Seeing this, crew members in one B-17 begin to sing "Goodnight Sweetheart." Among the B-17s shown in flight, is B-17F, Serial Number 41-24635 (named:"8 Ball Mk II") of the 359th Bomb Squadron, 303rd Bomb Group, stationed at RAF Station Molesworth, England. A rainbow is seen as the returning B-17s begin landing at their home base. Two airmen are seen walking together in their flight gear, across a field.
