Brest, France during World War I. American soldiers (pallbearers) escort flag-draped coffin of fallen comrade into Kerfautras cemetery, on path from main entrance on rue Massillon. The coffin is carried in a horse-drawn roofed hearse, open on the sides. A man, an old woman, and a little girl, walk behind the hearse. At the graveside, the woman places flowers on the coffin, and then steps away holding the girl's hand. There are many white crosses, topped with small American flags, in this area of the cemetery. An Army honor guard presents arms with their rifles, and the pallbearers salute as a bugler blows taps.Several small children stand at the graveside. The old woman removes the flowers from the coffin and kneels, crosses herself, and speaks a prayer. Brief glimpse of many small children amongst the American crosses.
