German reinforcements arrive on the plains of the Ukraine. A map shows various places. German troops arrive at a railroad train station and get off for a short rest stop. They obtain cigarettes and snacks at a refreshment stand attended by local women. Sign above the stand reads: "Marketenderei." The troops wash and shave and then reboard the train to continue their journey. The train travels through flat featureless snow-covered terrain, arriving at an Army base, where the troops leave the train. Writing on the side of a wooden building reads:"Urlauber GD hier melden gegenuber Haus 29." The troops sign in, receive instructions, and board trucks to the front, where they proceed on foot in the snow. One soldier carries a pet lamb in his arms. They move supplies on sleds pulled by horses through a forest, past parked German tanks and halftracks. Troops line up for soup and relax as they eat. Two soldiers,in white winter combat uniform gear, talk about their families at home. One shows a photo of his child, and the other shows a black doll dressed in skirt and hat -- perhaps a Christmas tree decoration. The soldiers amuse themselves wrestling and throwing snow at one another. A soldier in a StuG III tank destroyer. Troops in white outerwear seen in trenches, crawling through the snow, and operating a switchboard in a field communications center. Officers discuss over maps. German pilot, Hans-Ulrich Rudel, in hospital recovering from wounds, receives Germany's highest award and is promoted, during World War II
Germany's most famous pilot of Stuka dive bombers (Junkers Ju 87) Hans-Ulrich Rudel, seen in hospital, after being wounded in the thigh, during World War 2. His doctor visits and asks how he is doing. He replies "ausgezeichnet" (excellent). His wife comes to the bedside and speaks with him briefly. Rudel's hospital chart is seen, with his rank shown as Oberst (Colonel).This is notable, when downed in November, he had been a Lieutenant Colonel with Schlachtgeschwader 2 "Immelmann" (Battle Squadron 2 "Immelmann.") Another German officer sits at his bedside and inquires about his experience. Colonel Rüdel explains how he was downed by flak while attacking Soviets tanks on the Eastern Front. He speaks about his comrade fliers. Next, the award of "Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds"is shown. (This award was created by act of the Reichstag, solely for Rudel, on December 29, 1944. He was also promoted to Colonel, the same day.) The film concludes with additional comments by Colonel Rudel.

Undersecretary of War, Robert Porter Patterson, Sr. speaks about a report from the General staff outlining the needs for combating Germany and Japan in World War 2. He cites Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily, as an example of what will be needed. He continues to narrate in the background as an animated map appears showing the buildup of supplies and Allied forces in North Africa; Allied air forces flying 60 thousand sorties over Sicily and, the direct amphibious assault using 3,200 vessels.
