Italian nationalist leader Gabriele D'Annunzio and other Italian irredentist leaders are warmly welcomed in the Adriatic port city of Fiume as his contingent of Italian military volunteers occupies the Adriatic city in September, 1919. Ships seen docked in the background, between buildings. Irredentism leader D'Annunzio, with a wide collar atop his uniform, and wearing gloves, speaks forcefully to the assembled crowd . Several of the officers are carried down the street atop the shoulders of the cheering crowd. A warship is docked in the background. Flag of the Kingdom of Italy is seen in the crowd. Gabriele D'Annunzio is seen later, in uniform with shirt and tie, but without the collar and gloves, making his way through the crowd and then becoming the center of attention for the cameraman, as he poses surrounded by young military volunteer admirers.

Italian nationalist leader Gabriele D'Annunzio is seen talking with some of his Italian military volunteers, as they occupy the Adriatic city of Fiume, in September, 1919. His troops surge through the streets of the city mingling with local citizens. D'Annunzio and two of his officers are seen being carried on the shoulders of the crowd. Two Italian warships are seen docked at the Fiume pier. One, the Giuseppe Cesare Abba, a Pilo Class destroyer, displays the letters: "AB" on her hull.The other,displays "NL." Scene shifts to the deck of an Italian warship where an officer commands sailors as they march to take positions in formation on her deck. All are in full dress uniforms. Utility dinghies (or lifeboats) are seen on deck and one on davits.
