A troop ship departs France carrying American soldiers returning home to the United States, at the end of World War I.

Scene opens showing large ocean liner at a pier with some American soldiers on board at the end of World War 1. . A dozen people stand on the dock, some holding umbrellas. Scene shifts to soldiers crowded on the upper deck, outdoors. Next, boys are seen on a cobblestone wharf beside the ship looking expectantly up towards the soldiers who occasionally toss things down to them. Some of the boys tussle over over these items as they attempt to catch them as they fall. A black dog mingles with the boys. Suddenly, a contingent of American soldiers marches past on their way to board the ship. View from a high vantage point on the ship shows the top deck completely filled with soldiers crammed together, waving happily. A tug boat moves close to maneuver the ship from the dock. Camera captures soldiers gathered around as two of their group take turns tap dancing on the wooden deck, while those watching clap in time to the dancers and express their approval of their performances. Next, two women are seen standing on the balcony of a building. They wave white scarfs in farewell. The ship makes its way slowly away from the port.
