The Washington Monument in the background. General De Lattre and his staff come down the ramp of a U.S. military aircraft. They assemble on the field and salute. U.S. soldiers give a gun salute. De Lattre and other French officers salute. General Joseph Lawton Collins, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, stands with General Lattre. General Colling makes a speech as he greets and welcomes De Lattre and talks about his great fight in Indochina. Lattre expresses his thanks to the Chief of Staff. He states that he is glad to be in the U.S. amidst his comrade in arms who fought together for the Liberation of France. He talks about the U.S. troops at war in Korea and expresses his concern over the French war against Communism in Indochina. He makes a statement for a French radio. Collins and De Lattre stand together as the latter repeats his speech in French. (Korean War period.)

French troops disembark from Landing craft and fire machine guns and mortars in Indochina.

Landing craft loaded with French troops make their way through the Bamboo Canal in Vietnam. Troops disembark from the landing craft on river bank near port of Coi-Co at the junction of Song-Thai-Binh. They cross open fields and canal ( some with supplies on their backs). Local children seen with water buffaloes. A truck is ferried across the canal. Advance is held up as they encounter Viet-Minh resistance at a village. French soldiers dig in. They fire machine guns and mortars. Thatched-roofed house burns as they occupy the village.
