Participating athletes from all over the Soviet Union as well as other countries, are seen parading in the opening ceremonies. Almost all carry flags and banners. Some accompany decorated floats. Massed flags of participating Soviet republics and other nations are carried in a parade. Pigeons are released as in Olympic openings. Some participants appear to be from Sudan. Behind them in the background a stadium clock displays a sign in Cyrillic reading "МИР," (the World). Women participants dance. Some Asian women dance with fans. Band members massed on the field create a "wave" with a large net over their heads.
