Rescue boats and crew survivors of torpedoed ship, at U.S. Coast Guard Station, Manasquan Inlet, New Jersey, during World War II
Views of oil-stained motor lifeboat and cabin picket boat used by U.S. Coast Guard in rescuing survivors from the tanker, R.P. Resor, after it was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-578, on the night of 28 February, 1942, in World War 2. The Resor burned for hours afterwards with fire spread by leaking cargo oil. The only survivors, Seaman John Forsdal, and Coxwain Daniel Hey, are seen in the Coast Guard Station dining room following their rescue.

Four pilots known as "Men on the Flying Trapeze," an Army flight demonstration team, pose in front of a U.S. Army Air Corps P-l2. From the left they are Sgt. William C. McDonald; an unidentified pilot; Captain Claire Chennault and Sgt. John H. Williamson. (Claire Chennault went on to lead the famous "Flying Tigers," The First American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Chinese Air Force in 1941–1942.) Next, three P-12's are seen taking off together. U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt visits Bell and Curtiss aircraft factories in Buffalo, New York
On November 2, 1940, U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt and party visit P-39 aircraft production line at the Bell Aircraft Company factory, 2050 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, New York, and P-40 production lines at the Curtiss Aeroplane factory, 2303 Kenmore Avenue, Buffalo, NY. Workers in the Bell plant pose around and inside fuselages taking shape along a production line for Bell P-39 Airacobra airplanes. In the Curtiss plant, view from rear, of Secret Service agent in coat and hat, standing on running board of an open Packard motor car carrying President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and his party as they drive slowly along an aisle in the factory, showing P-40 aircraft in various stages of completion. The President is barely visible in the back seat. (This is a 1939 Packard twelve, model 1708, special parade car, built for the President's use.) View from ahead of the President's car, as it proceeds along the Curtiss P-40 production line.
