Major demolition and reconstruction of the White House in Washington, DC starting in 1949

Wholesale reconstruction of the White House residence begun in 1949 and continuing during most of the term of President Truman, who used Blair house as the official Presidential residence during the renovation period. Although the wings continued to function for White House staff, the main house was completely rebuilt, with new supports, beams, etc. which involved demolition and rebuilding on a monumental scale. Views of the construction work in progress.
