U.S. Marine Corps F4U Corsair pilots of MAG-11 depart on a mission during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
A crew truck is pulled up in front of a parked F4U Corsair airplane (number 036) of the Marine Aircraft Group 11. ("MAG-11"is displayed on door of the crew truck.) A seat pack parachute sits on the truck fender. Plane captain straddles the cockpit of the airplane. Pilots gather next to the aircraft as the senior officer gives a last minute briefing after which they pick up their parachutes and head toward their respective aircraft. The pilot of aircraft number 036 climbs into his cockpit with help from his plane captain, starts the engine and taxis out for takeoff. F4U number 081 is seen taxiing out.Two F4U Corsairs are seen taking off.

Film begins showing young school children on Malta, walking, through streets littered with rubble, on their way to an outdoor school during World War 2. . Several scenes of the children at school. They line up outside a building and then proceed to their outdoor classrooms, all of which have desks for them. Several scenes focusing on the children in various outdoor settings. British sailors move a torpedo on a transporter to arm a British Navy Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bomber. They roll the torpedo underneath the aircraft to fasten it in place. Naval aviators discuss the mission. A swordfish plane starts its engine. Sailors move munitions from storage in medieval moats, through walled passage ways to arm the aircraft. They load a torpedo onto a Bristol Beaufort twin engine torpedo bomber. The Beaufort bomber starts engines, taxis, and takes off. It is followed by two Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft. Malta defenders with anti-aircraft guns in positions under camouflage netting. One with binoculars scans the sky for enemy aircraft. He speaks into a radio. Air raid alarms sound, and civilians run to shelters, as the military mans anti-aircraft guns. Fighter pilots run to their aircraft. A Fairy Firefly fighter plane is seen readied and waiting for a pilot. Closeup of pilot climbing into cockpit. Anti-aircraft gun crew mans its gun. Farm workers pause and look skyward. Anti-aircraft guns firing. Axis aircraft downed by anti-aircraft fire, crashes in explosion. Guns fire at a German Heinkel 111 bombers. Bombs exploding on the ground. Civilians seen in a bomb shelter. Numerous bombs striking all across a city. People emerging from their shelters after the raids. Newspaper front page shows George VI and notes that he has awarded Malta the George Cross. Boys running to distribute the papers. A florist shop owner places flowers on display outside his shop.

Opening scene shows a U.S. Army M3 Lee tank moving toward the camera, with a crew of two women, one in the top turret and the other in the lower turret (which does not show a gun). Women are seen working on various manufacturing tasks. One uses a sewing machine One loads powder into a shell and operates a machine press to compress it. Several women install noses on shells. Some work on large shell casings. Others examine and test small arms. One tests fires a Browning M-19. 30 caliber machine gun. as others test fire rifles. A woman is seen test firing a Browning M-1917 heavy machine gun. A battery of Anti-aircraft guns is seen raising its barrels and firing. A woman manipulates the controls of one. Women hold their ears as they test fire a 90mm anti-aircraft gun. A team of women carries a part for an artillery piece and screw it in place. Two women carry racks of artillery shells, that they load into an anti-aircraft gun. As the gun is test fired, they and a soldier with them hold their ears. Women work with pneumatic tools on the tread of an M3 Lee tank. One uses a long wrench to tighten a bolt. A woman poses in the top turret of the M-3. Two others climb aboard and close the hatch behind them. With two crew members seen in hatches, the tank drives past the camera. Final image is a woman holding two large artillery shells.
