Bomb blast at Labor department headquarters in Palestine; Jewish refugees on ship in France.
A newsreel titled, 'World focus on Palestine' shows aftermath of a bomb blast at the Labor department headquarters in Palestine that killed 3 British police. Injured being rescued from the wrecked building by soldiers as smoke rises from it. Tightened security as British soldiers search Jewish people thoroughly on the streets, beside razor wire in a street. Scene changes to the harbor in Dubuque, France, where 4500 Jewish refugees and displaced persons on board the ship "Runnymede Park," bound for Palestine, are seen looking outward from the ship deck while it remains at port awaiting orders. The ship refused docking in France, and is being supplied with food by small boat, and only the sick and injured on the ship are brought to shore for treatment. Views of sick or injured children, women, and men receiving assistance on shore.
Jewish refugees from Europe reach Palestine
A newsreel titled 'US-Russia back UN plan for Holy Land' shows European Jewish refugees on board a former American vessel as they reach Haifa Palestine after traveling from a Black Sea port. Writing on ship says "Haganah Ship - Jewish State". Passengers hold up a dead infant for those on the docks to see, a victim of the overcrowded ship conditions. British forces patrol the docks before passenger disembark. Fatigued refugees, including families with small children, disembark from the ship as the injured and sick are carried away on stretchers. Passengers are sprayed with delousing agent powder to control spread of disease. Other passengers seen embarking a ship from dock for transport to Cypress detention camps, rather than facing deportation to Europe. Scene change to United Nations meeting at Lake Success New York. United States delegate, Herschel Johnson, addresses a meeting of General Assembly's Special Committee on Palestine, expressing support for proposed partition of Palestine.
Murderer of Lindbergh Jr.; Bruno Hauptmann executed in Trenton, New Jersey
A newsreel titled 'Hauptmann dies in electric chair for kidnap and murder', shows police officers outside the prison where Hauptmann has been executed in electric chair for the murder of Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., son of aviator Charles Lindbergh, in Trenton, New Jersey. Electric chair and a picture of Hauptmann are seen. Journalists and reporters send news about the execution over phone and others type the story. A witness of the execution is being interviewed by a reporter.
Universal Pictures beats McPherson Globe Refiners in basketball to win Olympics final in New York City
A newsreel titled "Universal five wins Olympics basketball final" shows a game between the company team from Universal Pictures and the McPherson Globe Refiners from Globe Oil and Refining Co. of McPherson, Kansas. The McPherson team is sometimes also referred to as the Oilers, or the Refiners. The teams are seen playing in the Olympics Qualifying basketball final in New York's Madison Square Garden. People cheer the two teams. Universal defeats the McPherson Globe Refiners to win the Olympics final. The win entitled the Universal Pictures team to name 7 players to the Olympic basketball team representing the United States in the 1936 Olympics held in Berlin Germany, and McPherson Globe Refiners was able to name 6 players to the team. These two teams beat out five U.S. college teams to earn the spots in the final and determine the makeup of the U.S. Olympic Basketball team. Players in the game in this video clip include Globe Refiners forward Francis Johnson, Centers Willard Schmidt and Joe Fortenberry, and Universal forward Carl Knowles. Universal beat the Globe Refiners by a score of 44 to 43. According to a Time Magazine article of April 13, 1936, the Globe Oil & Refining team, "...have perfected a technique called dunking with which they score by jumping up above the basket, dropping the ball into it." This may be one of the earliest references to dunking, now a staple technique in basketball. The same Time article further stated of the Oilers, "On the defense, they prevent opponents from scoring by batting the ball out of the basket." Again, the Globe Refiners were demonstrating play that later became standard in modern basketball. The idea for the Globe Refiners was a company promotion scheme, thought up in 1934 by Gene Johnson, the Sales Manager of Globe Oil who had several years experience coaching basketball. The Olympic team also included Washington State Huskey player Ralph Bishop. The USA went on to win the gold, defeating Canada 19-8.

Charles Hudgins being presented a plaque by an officer as other soldiers look on, as Hudgins is the 2,000,000th soldier to return. American soldiers say goodbye to dear ones before embarking a ship at a European port. Second half of clip shifts subject matter, showing exterior views of the landscape and grounds of the Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland, then owned by the Kennedy family, who donated it in 1945 to the National Trust for Scotland, with the stipulation that the top floor apartment of the Castle would be offered to General Eisenhower for his use for the rest of his life (it was later nicknamed the "Scottish White House" by then President Eisenhower). Views of the castle grounds, walls, gates, defense cannons.
