View of captured Japanese submarine I-401 during Operation Road's End. The boat is sunk as a target off Barber's Point, Oahu, Hawaii, on 31 May 1946. Closeup view of the I-401. Next, it is seen at some distance from the U.S. submarine, USS Trumpetfish (SS-425), as it moves away from the I-401. The Trumpetfish (unseen) fires two torpedoes, in succession, as it proceeds. The first strikes the I-401 just aft of the conning tower. A little later, the second strikes amidships. The I-401 is seen sinking, stern first.
