Medical Air Evacuation of injured Marines out of Iwo Jima in World War II
An injured U.S. Marine with an attached plasma bag is carried on a stretcher towards a Douglas R4D transport aircraft, where he is laid down next to other injured and deceased marines. A few closeup shots of his dirty and bruised face are shown, before he is lifted into the R4D. The airplane is then seen taking off.

A Douglas R4D transport aircraft (number 245 seen on fuselage) takes off during World War 2. Jane Kendeigh, the first Navy flight nurse to land in an active Pacific combat zone, and a few U.S. Marines are inside a Douglas R4D airplane in flight, speaking to one another and taking care of injured soldiers that are lying on stretchers and beds throughout the aircraft. Kendeigh is seen next to a few loaves of bread and a plate of meat, making sandwiches. The cockpit of the airplane is shown, with its pilots speaking to one another. An injured Marine on a bed is offered something out of a bowl, and another is seen with his hand on his forehead, presumably sleeping. Finally, a few shots of soldiers sitting and standing throughout the plane, talking amongst themselves.

A landing craft labeled "US 51" is seen from its starboard side, with cargo in tow and an American flag flying from its mast. There are also more identical ships in the background, all sailing in the English Channel towards Normandy, France in advance of the D-Day invasion of France. The camera cuts to another direction, which shows many more of the same ship, some also with cargo in tow. In this shot, there is land off in the distance, and a few barrage balloons in the sky above the LCIs. The final shot is of a long convoy of ships far off in the distance.

Then, a U.S. sailor is seen looking out through a pair of binoculars towards other ships far off in the distance, also traveling towards Normandy. Closer camera view shows that they are World War 2 landing craft infantry (LCI). More LCIs are shown off in the distance, this time with a few sailors and an antiaircraft gun in the foreground. The final shot is zoomed in on three more LCIs sailing next to one another.
