German troops take short leave from the Eastern Front during World War II
Film opens with map of the eastern front area during World War 2. A railroad train is seen pulling into a station. Closeup of snow between the tracks. Happy German soldiers, on leave from the front, leave the train and crowd the station platform. Some of the soldiers visit a shop labeled: "Marketenderei,"where they obtain various personal supplies. Views of soldiers washing and shaving, before heading back to the front. Conductor closes railroad train door. Women and others wave from the station platform, one with a dog, as the train pulls out, headed back to the front. Next, the train arrives at another station where the soldiers leave it. A sign directs them to building 29 where they are to register. The troops enter barracks, and then proceed to board army canvas-covered trucks. Army Trucks are seen moving in both directions along a snowy road, across agricultural areas. Troops climb down from a truck, adjusting their weapons. Some are seen walking toward the camera. One carries a lamb in his arms. Views of soldiers traveling on a horse-drawn sled. Others are seen at a camp, where they receive hot soup in their personal mess gear. A Colonel (named Kominsky) eating with one of his troops. Two soldiers in white arctic garb, eating in front of a tank. Soldiers sharing photographs of their children. One, smoking a pipe, holds up a black African doll. Some of the soldiers take advantage of the quiet and begin to frolic in the snow. They begin by throwing large amounts of snow on some of their comrades. Soon the all take part in a snowball fight. Film ends as one brushes snow off himself.
Military Operations on the Eastern Front during World War II, from the German perspective
At start of film, a German Stug III tank destroyer with single crew member is seen in a snowy landscape on the Eastern Front during the winter of 1942 in World War 2. Another Stug III, with large protective side plates installed, is seen sitting in the snow next to a barn. A third one is seen parked in snow with no soldiers present. The scene changes to German infantry in white cold weather parkas, at a battle front. One soldier looks through binoculars. German radio operator seated operating a radio, at a field communications center. Officers review maps and instructions. Infantry begin marching forward through the snow. Some load supplies on a half-track prime mover. Tiger I tanks of s.Pz.Abt.503 (503rd Heavy Tank Battalion) accompany infantry spread widely across flat snow-covered field. A locomotive and train passes nearby. Several dead Soviet soldiers are seen in the snow. Infantrymen capture two soviet soldiers and take them prisoner. A German soldier digs up a heavy box-shaped land mine. A rough posted sign warns of mines. Troops fire field artillery. Several views of destroyed Soviet armor and artillery pieces.
Scenes from the Battle of Monte Cassino during World War II, from the German perspective
Opening scene displays map of Italy, Sardinia, and Corsica. A German soldier at the front in the area of Monte Cassino, reads military news entitled, "South Front" which contains news about the battle of Monte Cassino, in Italy during World War 2. The high hill known as Monte Cassino and the Monastery located there are seen in the background. German troops are seen hidden among foliage at the base of the hill. One is hunkered down behind an M-42 machine gun equipped with a tripod. Glimpse of troops in trench, conversing. Next, American aircraft (too far away to see) begin bombing the Monte Cassino hilltop and Monastery. Numerous explosions are seen and heard as the bombs explode. A German soldier jumps over a stone wall to find better protection. German soldier observes through binoculars. At a campsite, where some clothes are drying in the background, Several German officers consult maps and discuss their plans. German infantry move into new positions at the base of the hill. One fires short bursts from an M-42 machine gun. Others fire their rifles. One uses a Schiessbecher to fire a rocket propelled grenade with his rifle. As they advance further, they come upon the bodies of several dead American soldiers. They capture an American soldier and disarm him. They capture several more American soldiers and march them back from the front. German officers interrogate the captured soldiers. Finger points at a location on an area map. German artillery then fires at that position. Artillery officers use periscopic binoculars to monitor the targeting. German artillery shells burst in a valley below the Monte Cassino hill.

A new rolling mill begins operation at the first Metallurgical Plant in Uzbekistan, USSR
Title slate reads,"the First Metallurgical Plant in Soviet Central Asia." Narrator says construction started 4-years ago during the Battle of Stalingrad in World War 2 (1942-43). Interior of the plant is shown from a vantage point high above the factory floor. Strips of hot steel are seen being extruded from a rolling mill. Closeup of the rolling mill in action and workers standing beside it. Closeup of the mill's rollers and hot steel blank passing through them. Workers handle the hot steel with long tools, as they move it back and forth to different sets of rollers. Narrator says the rolling mill has a capacity of 50 thousand tons per year.
