British pilots take off to photograph enemy lines, an airfield is prepared and personnel celebrate in Eastern France.
British pilots fly over the West Wall to photograph enemy (Germans) forts and troop concentrations in Eastern France, early during British Expeditionary Force involvement in France, during World War 2. British fliers stand near aircraft of the Royal Air Force. They look at a map. British pilots get into aircraft. An obstacle in front of the wheel of an aircraft is removed. The aircraft takes off over the West Wall to photograph enemy (Germans) forts and troop concentrations. Trucks in a forest. Men work in a trench. A British personnel holding equipment in his hands smiles. Airfields are prepared: Trees are cut and a bulldozer passes along a road to level the land. The aircraft lands. The pilot goes into a tent. He looks at photographs. One British personnel inspects holes in a wall. British soldier carries a live goose away. A British soldier pushes a cart loaded with drums or barrels. A French woman stands outside a house and then quickly turns and runs back in the house. British military personnel read newspapers. They congregate at a bar and reach for bottles of alcohol on the bar.
A gala parade is held in New York City in which people welcome a gift train which has been sent by the people of France.
U.S. receives a train of gifts in New York City from France (showing their appreciation for relief goods sent by the Americans following World War 2). French freighter Magellan, with "Merci America" painted on her sides, arrives at New York Harbor. It carries a train of 49 French railroad box cars filled with tens of thousands of gifts of gratitude sent by the people of France. Government officials greet each other. A railroad box car is lowered on the dock area from the ship. A sign on the box car : 'Homme 40, Chevaux (enlong) 8'. People stand on either side of a road to welcome and look at the train of gifts while it passes along the streets of the city. Government officials seated in a car. A band plays musical instruments in a parade to welcome the train.

They march in loose formation in the roadway, over the Nibelungen Bridge (Nibelungenbrücke, 4020 Linz, Austria), in Linz. Several women bring up the rear of the formation. Some German civilians are seen, carrying belongings, going the opposite direction, on a sidewalk on the other side of the bridge. The Danube River is in the background. The formation of surrendering German soldiers turns at end of the bridge and proceeds through the town. A convoy of trucks in the background. American soldiers follow the formation and others are seen along their path. Civilians watch as they pass.
German forces depart Linz, Austria, at the end of World War II
Opening scene shows local citizens as they stand in the main square (Hauptplatz) of Linz, Austria, watching surrendered German troops depart at the end of world War 2. The troops climb over barriers at the base of the Trinity Column (Dreifaltigkeitssäule) and march in loose formation out of the city. A group of American troops watch from atop an M10 tank destroyer. View through a building archway as the German soldiers march past. The long column continues along a road looking down on the Danube River. Another view shows two U.S. soldiers with slinged rifles strolling at the head of the column. The departing German soldiers are all disarmed and carry their personal kit and gear. A group of German officers pass the camera, and one takes particular notice of the filming. A Sherman tank passes going in the opposite direction. A civilian man, carrying a brief case walks past the departing troops. (Note: Today, the Trinity Column looks different than in this film. In 1943 all removable statues and parts were taken from the column and safely stored in central cellars on Kapuzinerstrasse. They were recovered in 1945 and restored to the column, along with other changes, that were completed in December, 1947.)
