The time is at end of World War 2. Slate describes this film as the Orphanage at Dachau. A bucolic scene shows horse-drawn wagon moving along country road, with twin spires of a church, visible in the background. Camera zooms in on church spires and roof, and then to a sign near the door reading,"DP Childrens Center, UNRRA, Team 182." (DP means Displaced Persons, UNRRA stands for United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.) At the entrance, itself, a sign reads:"Ausländer Kinderstation, UNRRA, Ausschuss 182 (Foreign children's ward, UNRRA, committee 182). Children run down the stairs of the building and are seen, next, outdoors in a grassy churchyard of the camp, where they form a circle, hold hands, and dance and sing. Scene shifts to indoors in a high-ceilinged room filled with daylight from several large windows where the children sit for a nourishing mid-day meal. U.S. Army forces assault the German Winter Line of Defense during the Italian campaign of World War II

American troops of the 45th Infantry Division, are seen in mountains after breaking through the first segment of the German Winter Line, near San Pietro Infine, Italy, in World War 2. It is Christmas Day, 1943 and they occupy Mount Lungo. They receive Christmas dinner in their individual mass kits and sit down on the ground to eat it. On December 28th, they employ pack mules and also use stretchers to retrieve remains of fallen 3rd Division defenders down the steep mountain trails of Mount Lungo. They place the carefully wrapped remains at the base of a bullet pock-marked stone structure. Scene shifts to Mount Sammucro where American troops take advantage of a brief lull in fighting. On 1 January, 1944, Second Corp reinforcements have arrived and Americans commence a new assault on the German Winter Line defenses, with an artillery barrage on German positions guarding San Vittore del Lazio. Gregory C. (Greg) Bell, a sophomore at Indiana University, is seen making his record-setting long jump of 26' 7", to win the national collegiate title on June 14, 1957, in Austin Texas. Sequence shifts to the track where Don Bowden, of California, is running well ahead of favored Ron Delany, of Villanova, to win the 800 meter run in 1 minute and 47.2 seconds. (Note: Delany won the 1500 meter run in 4 minutes 6 and a half minutes.) The next day, on June 15, 1957, Bob Gutowski, of Occidental College,California, is seen breaking the World record in the pole vault at a height of 15 feet 9 3/4 inches. He poses momentarily afterwards.
