Lt. D.E. Karger of USAAF 364th Fighter Squadron shoots down a German Fw-190 aircraft during World War II.

Gun camera footage from a P-51D fighter plane of the USAAF 357th Fighter Group, 364th Fighter Squadron, stationed at RAF Leiston. This one is being flown by Lieutenant Dale E. Karger on 5 December, 1944. Camera shows Karger's aircraft tracking and firing at a German Focke Wulf Fw-190 aircraft flying below him. His rounds strike the FW-190 and it bursts into flames and falls toward the ground. (Note: This shows one of two Fw-190s Karger shot down this day. They were his first aerial victories. He went on to finish his tour with credit for 7.5 downed German aircraft.)

Dwight D Eisenhower visits Korea after becoming the President of United States.

Eisenhower in his speech promises to go to Korea (during the Korean War) after winning the election. Dwight D Eisenhower wins the Presidential election and makes an appearance before the public. Eisenhower reaches Korea on a three day visit. He reviews an honor guard at the airport. Steel industry workers resort to strike and protest. President Eisenhower seizes the industry by an executive edict. But Judge Davis Pine rules against the President.

A large crowd of the Democratic Party faithful, in formal dress, gather for a Victory Dinner, in the Willard Hotel, Washington, DC, to celebrate Franklin D. Roosevelt's reelection in 1937. An orchestra plays "Happy Days Are Here Again." The President stands at a table (with a man assisting him) as Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt is escorted to his side. A battery of news photographers take their pictures. Mrs. Roosevelt speaks to President Roosevelt and then leaves. U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) visits Pine Mountain Valley Grammar School, Georgia

President Franklin D. Roosevelt, with his daughter, Anna, seated beside him, drives his personal hand-controlled 1931 Plymouth PA Phaeton open car into the courtyard of the Pine Mountain Valley elementary school, built as part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) federally funded project during the Great Depression. Teachers and children and their families are gathered to greet him. Several Secret Service agents walk behind the car. Many American flags are displayed and a chorus of children sings the tune, "Happy Days are here again." The President remains seated in his car as a group of women display a homemade quilt that they present as a gift. President Roosevelt speaks to the children (and other gathered) remarking that things looked improved at the school, since his visit the year before, and noting that the Government's efforts were helpful. President Roosevelt makes a few more comments, and then turns to the woman standing next to the car (possibly the School Principal) and asks: "Will you get in with me?" She gets in the car, and they sit a moment as he talks with a man nearby. A secret service agent places the gift quilt in the empty back seat of the car. The children serenade the President again. FDR drives away through the crowd, followed by Secret Agents on foot and in an automobile.

In a speech from the White House, American President Franklin D Roosevelt announces the signing into law of the Selective Service Registration, the first peacetime draft in United States History. President Roosevelt proclaims that the first registration under the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 shall take place on Wednesday, the sixteenth day of October, 1940 between hours 7 AM and 9 PM.
