U.S. Marines practice trench warfare techniques during their training in World War I
U.S. Marines occupy trenches at their training facility in World War 1. Once positioned in them, they climb from the trenches, in squads, and charge forward. They are followed by a second wave of squads. Some marines are seen down in a dugout of the trench. Another scene shows more squads of marines going over the top of deep trenches, in successive waves. They climb rustic ladders to get out of these deep trenches.
Henry Ford's "999" racing car
Actors, dressed in early 20th century clothing, ride in a wagon propelled by wind and sail, across a sand flat. Actor portrays Henry Ford working on the gasoline engine for a racing car called the Ford 999. Workers at a forge making repairs and adjustments on the car. The actual Ford 999 being demonstrated on a race track. Driver seated in the car. An assistant cranks the Ford 999 engine to start it, and it is driven around the track. (Signs painted on the track wall refer to Tommy Milton; Duesenberg; and Meteor, which relate to auto racing in the 1920s and 30s.)
Application of assembly line techniques to production of Ford Model T automobiles
Actors recreate scenes at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan during its early days. Ford hunches over a magazine, circa 1909, advertising the Model T Touring car for $850. He tries to figure how to lower prices so Ford workers, themselves, can afford to buy the cars they make. Sequence shows how teams of men first built individual cars, then specialized to build the same parts for all the cars; and finally how the moving assembly line came into being. Later actual sequences show the process adapted to subassembly of parts; and parts are seen being gravity-fed to workers. Finally, actual moving conveyer systems are shown in operation, with radiators, engines, chassis, and entire cars moving through the production lines.
