A shipment of mules from Missouri arrives at an army remount station and the soldiers try to unload them from the boxcars. They pull the mules out of the boxcars. The soldiers have a tough time unloading them. A mule runs around on a field as a soldier tries to tackle him.

United States Coast Guardsmen patrol coasts in the United States. Coast Guardsmen mounted on horseback as they patrol coastlines throughout the United States. Narrator states they are guarding the coast from landings of enemy saboteurs who would arrive by submarine (reference to the Coast Guard discovery of Operation Pastorius Nazi German would-be saboteurs caught on Long Island, New York.) Coast Guardsmen ride horses on a beach. Trained dogs and radio sets also assist them in patrolling the shoreline.

The soldier says to Jim that he has to fight with himself before fighting against the enemy. He advises him to forget his civilian life. The soldiers board the trucks and convoy starts out. Jim thinks of his parents and girlfriend. He decides to forget them and goes off to sleep.
