A sailor seen in the cab of a derrick at the controls. Sailors guide a large auxiliary generator down the ramp of the LST. The sailor-operated derrick lowers a cable with hook that sailors fasten to the generator and the derrick begins to lift it.
Start of film shows a French sailor looking through binoculars at sunset. Next scene shows a ship's officer and sailor employ a fire control range finder for anti aircraft use. Next, emergency responders, in Khaki uniforms and steel combat helmets, rush aboard the docked ship, from a bunker nearby. Some take up positions at a naval gun, that they maneuver, pointing its barrel landward. The responders are seen leaving a bunker displaying a sign reading: "Savoie" above its door. Scene changes to a sailor aboard the ship loading a very pistol. A sailor fires a round from a belt fed heavy anti aircraft machine gun. A white, red, blue, and yellow flag is displayed at his position. He hands a slender gun barrel to another sailor. A responder in Khaki sits on deck, disassembling a weapon.
American troops, in North Africa, board ships going to Italy during Operation Avalanche. An American flag is displayed and the gate is guarded by two Navy shore patrolmen. A jeep drives past the gate inside the base. An army MP also stands near the entrance. A jeep carrying two U.S. soldiers exits the gate. Scene shifts to the Tunis port, where many U.S. troops are assembling on the docks, next to landing craft infantry (LSIs). One column of soldiers begins walking one at a time up a gangplank to board an LSI. More soldiers are seen arriving at a courtyard at the waterfront and then heading toward the loading docks. Views of one column of soldiers showing their identifications to two monitors who check them of a list of troops. Two soldiers show up carrying a bale of hay. They are followed by soldiers herding pack animals. Soldiers must struggle with some of the animals to get them to board an LSI. A small black dog walks near some of the pack animals. As film begins, a U.S. Navy officer and Army officer coordinate a list of soldiers to board a Landing Craft Infantry (LCI) in the port of Tunis, North Africa. Rubble of damaged and destroyed building is behind them. U.S. Army troops are next seen on the waterfront. They begin moving along the docks where LCIs are tied up. Other troops are assembled on the wharf waiting to enter the docks. Extended series of views showing closeups of soldier's combat boots stepping along the gangplank to an LCI. Next, is view from a dock as column of soldiers walk slowly past the camera toward their LSIs. Another view of troops and LSIs from further away.
