Views of Southern France, under German occupation in World War 2
Film opens with map showing lower France and Mediterranean areas. However, it shows images covering primarily the French Riviera (or Côte d'Azur) under German occupation during World War II, in 1943 or 1944. German infantry march along a road. A flight of German FW-190 Fighter airplanes flies inland from the Mediterranean Sea and crosses low above a harbor. Change of scene shows a single fighter plane buzzing the Marseille Port. (It looks like a P-47 with invasion stripes. But It does not draw any anti-aircraft fire.) Camera tracks it from vantage point at the Marseille Basilica, high above the harbor. Brief view of the Basilica as the aircraft passes. A glimpse of the Marseille Port below from the Basilica. View of the Marseille Transporter Bridge designed by Ferdinand Arnodin and built in 1905. Although narrator states "General Chennault's United States 10th Air Force," this film actually depicts Chennault's 14th Air Force formed in 1943. U.S. Marine Lieutenant Marshall, with his severely battle-damaged F4U Corsair at Torokina Air Strip in World War II
Flight operations at Torokina Air Strip on Bougainville Island during World War 2. U.S. Marine First Lieutenant Marshall, and another airman stand and smoke by the tail of the bullet-riddled F4U Corsair aircraft that he just landed on Torokina airfield. The aircraft, Corsair number 25 (BuNo 17736) is from Lieutenant Marshall's unit, VMF-216. They examine the damage on the aircraft. Lt. Marshall, who suffered head injury from cockpit shrapnel is being given first aid in an army tent. Views of damage to the aircraft, including tattered wing, flaps shot up, holes in the fuselage, and huge pieces shot out of the rudder. ( This mission took place on 19 Dec 1943. After flying cover for B-24 bombers over Rabaul, Three U.S. Marine Corps F4Us flown by Capt. Lawrence 'Cloudy" Faulkner, and First Lieutenants Marshal and Guv Kemper, were surprised and engaged by 20-30 Japanese Zekes (Zeros) diving from behind clouds . Lieutenant Marshal was the sole survivor of the encounter.)

Opening scene shows the USS Savannah (CL 42), on 11 September, 1943, after being struck by a German remotely controlled glider bomb released from a high flying German aircraft, She was supporting Allied amphibious operations at Salerno, Italy, in World War 2. Next, after fires were put out and smoke cleared, The disabled Savannah is seen sitting low in the water, making way slowly, among other Naval Task force ships in the background. (She made way to Malta under her own steam for emergency repairs.) Views of the Savannah passing as she heads for Malta. A Fletcher class destroyer fires her naval guns at the shore. Attack transports and other support ships are seen nearby. More views of support ships, including the USS Samuel Chase (APA-26). A barrage balloon seen above the convoy in some scenes. U.S. Marines boarding troop transport ships in World War 2. A line of the transport ships underway in the Pacific, en route to Tarawa, Gilbert Islands. The Destroyer, USS Frazier (DD-607) seen close to port, astern, with a line extending to the transport ship. A sealed packet of orders for the transport and the Marines is delivered over the line. Scene shifts to an officer briefing marines with help of a large relief map of Betio in the Tarawa atoll. The map is complete, in every detail, down to models of structures there. Marines are seen belting machine gun ammunition and test firing their weapons. Marines on deck exercise doing calisthenics.
