The German Merchant Submarine, Deutschland, arrives with merchant cargo in Baltimore, Maryland, during World War I.

The German merchant submarine Deutschland being assisted by the tugboat "Thomas F Timmins" into Baltimore Harbor (Maryland) on July 9, 1916. Her crew stands on deck and she flies the German flag. The Captain (Paul Koenig, sometimes spelled König, or Konig) and crew pose on shore for a photograph, behind a sign reading: Deutschland, Bremen. (Note: This commercial submarine was operated by the North German Lloyd Line. Submerging to avoid British patrols, she was able to carry valuable cargoes through the British (and other Entente Powers) WWI blockade. On this first trip to the U.S. She carried industrial dyes and gemstones. The Deutschland left Baltimore about 3 weeks later and returned safely to Bremen with with cargo of nickel, tin and rubber.)

The President wears a fur collar coat and woolen gloves. Next, a large group of people is seen assembled around a building. Change of scene shows President Wilson and First lady Edith Wilson standing on the back of a railroad train. She is bundled up in a fur coat. Wilson is holding his hat. Mrs. Wilson leaves the platform and goes back into the rail car. The President says a few words from the platform. At about this time, Attorney General,Thomas Watt Gregory is seen far to the President's left (at right of picture). While the President and his party stand on the train platform, one member of the group checks his watch frequently, as if concerned about keeping their schedule.

United States President Woodrow Wilson and his party enter a car and leaves the White House in Washington DC for his Summer White House (or "Summer Capitol"), Shadow Lawn, in Long Branch New Jersey. Well-wishers at the White House stand and wave as the car departs the dirt road driveway of the White House, and a 2nd car with a security detail follows. View of Shadow Lawn, the estate of Joseph Benedict Greenhut. (The estate shown here was originally built in 1903 by John A. McCall of New York Life Insurance Company. He sold it to Greenhut. It was later destroyed by fire, and a mansion belonging to F.W. Woolworth President Hubert T. Parsons was built on the site. That estate is now part of Monmouth College). Large group of people gathered on the front lawn of Shadow Lawn to hear President Wilson speak at a 1916 campaign event. He is introduced and then approaches the podium as people cheer. The estate and podium area at the front of a soaring exterior portico is decorated with many American flags and swags.

Ladies and gentlemen gather to hear a speaker at a courtyard in Wales, during World War I

British men and women entering a building in Wales, UK. They assemble before a stage at the back of the building. Participants are well dressed and constitute a dignified gathering. A gentleman addresses them. British flags displayed and a sign stretched across the top of the stage reads, in Welsh: "adgofion mebyd ein gwron,gwron y byd." ( childhood memories of our hero, the hero of the world ). The gathering may be of political nature and the sign may allude to David Lloyd George who spent his childhood in Wales.(He was Secretary of State for War and then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at the head of a wartime coalition government, beginning in 1916.) Following the meeting, participants come out of the front entrance, and pose momentarily for the cinematographer, before continuing on their way.
