Livadia Palace (Baturyna St, 44-а, Livadiya, 98655) outside the town was built by Tsar Nicolas II. Most of the conferences are held in this palace. The palace building venue has sprawling gardens. Direct traffic into the palace ground. The cars enter the grounds and dignitaries get off. High ranking military and government officials arrive for an international meeting. Musician, Composer, and film maker, Hanns Eisler, appears before Subcommittee of House Un-American Activities Committee
Subcommittee of House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) holds hearing in Los Angeles, California, United States. Johannes (Hanns) Eisler, musician, composer and film maker, is being questioned. He is questioned about his associations with the Communist Party and the Soviet Union. The witness spells his full name for the Committee, and states that he was born July 5, 1898, in Leipsig, Germany. He states his occupation, as composer and that he studied in Vienna and was a student of Arnold Schonberg. In response to questions, he recalls visiting the Soviet Union several times in the early 1930s, for film making and musical publishing. He denies ever receiving any monies from the Soviet Government.
Fire consumes large North German Lloyd ocean liner Munchen (later Steuben) docked in New York Harbor, New York City
Clear aerial views of midtown and lower Manhattan, New York City 1930, but with smoke coming from Hudson River pier of New York Harbor where the North German Lloyd liner Munchen (sometimes Muenchen or München) is seen on fire, shortly after docking in New York after the voyage from Bremen, Germany. Ship emits smoke and fire at the pier. Firefighters spray water to extinguish fire. Views of the piers and slips and dock areas on the Hudson River at New York City and close up views of the firefighters battling the blaze on the Muenchen. The ship subsequently sank at dock. She was raised later in 1930, repaired in dry dock, and returned to service under the new name SS General von Steuben. The ship was sunk in 1945 by the S-13 submarine of the Soviet Union.
