A sailor grabs a pet cat and drops it onto the porpoise, and it jumps off immediately as the men laugh. Men string up the porpoise and hoist it so it hangs above the deck. (Note: The nose shape and dorsal fin shape indicate that this may be a dolphin, not a porpoise).

Coast Guard Icebreaker Northwind comes to the aid. Icebreaker Northwind comes to the aid of vessels that are stuck in ice. It rescues and tows the Sennet. Sailors capture an Antarctic Ross Seal and lift it aboard a ship in a cargo net. Northwind cuts free the strangled USS Mount Olympus and other Navy vessels from the ice, and the Supplyship Merrick (AKA-97) which has suffered ruptures and taken on water.

Admiral Richard Byrd orders the DC-3s (also known as R4D) to take off from the deck. The DC-3s take off from the deck by means of jet propulsion devices. Admiral Byrd's plane lands on the Antarctic ice. He meets and greets the fellow officers. Expedition team is caught in heavy blizzard. Snow is cleared off aircraft, tents and equipment after the blizzard subsides. Admiral Byrd reviews his men and U.S. flag is raised.
