Coast Guard Icebreaker Northwind comes to the aid. Icebreaker Northwind comes to the aid of vessels that are stuck in ice. It rescues and tows the Sennet. Sailors capture an Antarctic Ross Seal and lift it aboard a ship in a cargo net. Northwind cuts free the strangled USS Mount Olympus and other Navy vessels from the ice, and the Supplyship Merrick (AKA-97) which has suffered ruptures and taken on water.
