They take off their hats as a sign of respect. A man takes out cans from this pile. The cans contain notes from various explorers. They read a note dated 14-16 December 1911, written by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. He puts the note back into the can, closes it and replaces the same into the monument.
