U.S. Army Air Forces begin operations on Saipan after its capture from the Japanese during World War 2. Japanese Zero fighter planes parked in a jumble on Saipan, after its capture by American forces in 1944. American soldiers are seen walking about and U.S. Army engineers are repairing the field for use. The first American P-47 to arrive, after Saipan is secured, lands on the airfield. Its pilot, Major Henry E. McAfee, Commander of the 19th Fighter Squadron, 318th Fighter Group, poses by his P-47 named "Jeanie." A B-29 combat crew is briefed on Saipan island, Mariana Islands during World War 2. Several aircraft parked on an airfield. Few baggages in front of an aircraft. United States Army Air Force Generals Henry H Arnold and Lauris Norstad and another officers walking up to B-29 crew standing on the airfield. General Norstad introduces General Henry Arnold to the combat crew of B-29 Superfortress and the commandants who are on their way to Tokyo, Japan after joining the 21st Bomber Command. General Henry Arnold shakes hands with the commandants. The crew standing in a row beside a USAAF heavy bomber B-29 Super Fortress. General Arnold briefs the crew. The General says the 21st Bomber Command has been operating out of China and the crew has the best of the aircraft which could carry the heaviest of loads. The General tells the crew that the message which is to be conveyed to Japan, is to be written on bombs. A few members of the crew wheel a cart loaded with bombs beside the aircraft. One of the crew members writes a message on a bomb as the General dictates. The Generals, the commandants and the crew members beside the cart of the bombs. The General wishes the crew good luck and shakes hands with the commandants. The message on the bomb for the enemy reads 'To the Warlords of Japan, We have not forgotten - The B-29s will remind you again and again and again'.

Camera pans across North airfield on Guam, Mariana Islands, in World War 2. Next a large group of Airmen are seen standing around a shiny B-29 bomber parked on the ramp. It has "K333" stenciled on left side of its forward fuselage. Its tail number is 42-224802. (This B-29 is named "Purple Shaft," but that is not stenciled on its left side.) The airmen walk around and examine it. Next, The aircraft commander, Lieutenant Warren Richard Aylsworth is seen speaking with a Captain, as they stand next to the plane. Others join in the conversation. (Note: The plane is scheduled to fly to Tinian this night, the 20th, but will land at Saipan, instead, because runway lights were not yet operational on Tinian. The "Purple Shaft" will be the first B-29 to arrive at Tinian, the following day, December 21, 1944.)

The first U.S. Army Air Force B-29 to be based on Saipan, comes in for a landing and taxis onto the ramp at Isley Airfield, Saipan, Marianas Islands, during World War II. A Crowd of U.S. military personnel surround the airplane. Brigadier General Haywood S.Hansell Jr., Chief of 21st Bomber Command, who flew the airplane, is greeted by Colonel Robertson, Colonel Shelmeyer, and other officers, on the ramp in front of the aircraft. Many C-47s and one C-54 cargo aircraft is seen on the ramp. The aircrew stand beside B-29, which bears "T Square 5" tail markings, identifying it as belonging to the 73rd Bombardment Wing, 498th Bomb Group, 873rd Bomb Squadron. Its tail number is: 42-24614. (It is named: "Joltin' Josie, The Pacific Pioneer." )
