United States Marine Corps in Guam, Mariana Islands during World War II. Marines move past burning tanks in the jungle. A charred hand of a dead soldier stick out of burned tank. Marines with M4A3 Sherman tanks advance on a road. The tanks fire at Japanese enemy positions. Fire and explosion in the bushes. An officer smokes a cigarette. The Marines advance uphill on Mount Santa Rosa. Some Marines help their comrades climb up the hill.
1st Tank Battalion of the United States Marine Corps at Tulagi Island in Solomon Islands during World War II. Marines load supplies onto the ship with the help of cranes. Small boat approaches dockyard. Landing ships laying off shore. Landing craft loaded with supplies departs from dockyard. Another ship approaches the dockyard.
Film begins as a Yard Oiler (YO-12) pulls up alongside the Gunston Hall (LSD-5). Next the LCT-925 (one of the three aboard the Gunston Hall) exits the well dock, filled with supplies. Next, men are seen attaching a fuel transfer line from the YO-12 to the Gunston Hall's fuel port. Scene shifts completely to U.S. Marines of 1st Tank Battalion, receiving supplies aboard the transport ship,USS DuPage (APA-41), by means of net slings, from one of her Higgins boats (LCVP), alongside. Marines open the nets and remove the contents. Views of loaded slings being raised from another boat and being opened on deck of the transport ship. Silhouette of freighter offloading supplies, to be ferried to the DuPage, is viewed from a a boat moving towards her. A Higgins boat is beside the freighter. Camera pans up to show Panamanian flag on freighter's top mast. A large bundle of boxes being lowered from the freighter to sailors in Higgins boat beside, that has PA 41 stenciled on its bow.
1st Tank Battalion of the United States Marine Corps arrives at Peleliu Island, Palau during World War 2. Opening scene shows USS Gunston Hall (LSD-5) with her docking well open, as viewed from stern of a landing craft, moving away from her. A landing craft infantry gunboat, LCI(G) is also seen. Scene shifts to U.S. Marines on deck of a ship, relaxing and tossing an object amongst themselves,. View from beach, where Marines are hunkered down next to a landing vehicle tracked (LVT) as an M4 Sherman tank approaches with fording stacks installed. The tank turns around and heads away from the beach. View, again from the beach as several more Shermans, also equipped for deep wading (Stack Fording Kit MT-S, installed) approach the beach. One tank, onshore, starts backing towards the water as a DUKW amphibious vehicle, hit by Japanese gun fire, is seen burning in the water, just short of the beach.
