U.S. 6th Marine Division marching into Tsingtao, China, after Japan's surrender ending World War II
Following the Japanese surrender, ending World War 2, on September 2, 1945, U.S. Marines were sent into China to help the Nationalist Chinese Government with the surrender of Japanese forces occupying parts of China. This film shows Marines of the 6th Marine Division marching into Tsingtao (aka Qingdao) China on that mission. Headed by a brass band, they march along an avenue in the city. A number of Chinese civilians walk alongside them. A man riding an empty rickshaw, is seen on the sidewalk. A U.S. military policemen stands guard along the line of march. Some Chinese enter the roadway to follow the band, walking, riding bicycles, and several on a horse-drawn wagon. They have to move aside to avoid interfering with the first contingent of marching Marines following the band. Next a squad of Marines is seen marching onto a dirt field. Many Marines are assembled in another field across the road in the background, where a U.S. M4 Sherman tank and other armor are also seen. The squad is followed by a larger group of Marines. Shift in scene shows Marines marching past a building displaying the Nationalist Chinese (Republic of China) flag.

A seated band of musicians plays. Scene shifts to the deck of the battleship USS Missouri, where Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu in formal attire sits to sign documents of surrender. General Douglas MacArthur, and other senior allied officers, stand nearby as Soviet Lieutenant General Kuzma Nikolaevish Derevyanko sits to sign for the USSR. Japanese civilians living in Korea, during the Japanese occupation, are seen moving with their belongings, to be relocated back in Japan.

United States Navy Fleet Admiral Chester William Nimitz, aboard the USS Bowfin (SS-287) in Apra Harbor, Guam, during World War 2. He is there to decorate the Captain and crew of the boat. Admiral Nimitz is seen at a microphone, addressing officers and sailors. Cameramen taking the photographs of the event. Navy band playing in the background. Admiral Nimitz presents the Navy Cross to Commander Alexander Kelly Tyree, for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Bowfin (SS-287), on the Seventh War Patrol of that submarine during the period 25 January 1945 to 25 March 1945. Admiral Nimitz then proceeds to decorate more officers and sailors from the crew. Nimitz returns to the microphone, reads a citation, and decorates several more crew members. He and other officers hold long hand salutes as the ceremony is concluding. Admiral Nimitz then announces the end of the ceremony and walks away. Camera focuses on a sailor with medal pinned on his shirt.
