Centennial of George Eastman's birth celebrated at his home in Rochester, New York
Opening scene shows numerous guests seated at an outdoor luncheon in the gerden of George Eastman's house in Rochester, New York. The occasion is the 100th Anniversary of Gorge Eastman's birth. Views of the house where Eastman was born. It has been moved from Waterville, New York to its present location in the gardens of his last home in Rochester, New York. Two little girls stand with parents. One holds a Kodak camera. Closeup of a woman taking a photograph and another of a young man photographing with a compact motion picture camera. A man using a historic motion picture camra on a tripod. People gather around the porch of the Eastman birthplace house where Officials of the George Eastman House, including Dr. C. E. Kenneth Mees, President, Mr. James E. Gleason, Chairman of the Board, and Mr. Charles Hutchison, Vice Presi-dent, are seated. One of them is seen speaking at a podium. Mrs. Robert Ranlett, Eastman's long time friend, uncovers a commemorative plaque on the porch. The U.S. Navy battleship, USS Tennessee (BB-43) passing the camera while conducting trials on Long Island Sound, in October, 1920, after being fitted out following her commissioning at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on on June 3, 1920. Her triple turret 14-inch guns are clearly visible as is the name, Tennessee, on her stern. She is seen again, raising plumes of black smoke as she steams in the opposite direction. All four of her triple 14-inch gun turrets are visible in silhouette. She is making good speed in very calm waters. (The camera ship is challenged to keep pace.) The Tennessee maneuvers to port in a fairly sharp turn, and the camera ship moves into her wake. A civilian, in hat and overcoat, is seen momentarily on the camera ship. More views of the Tennessee, include some from a distance as she maneuvers and heads toward the camera ship.

The First launch of an Atlas Intercontinental Ballistic Missile from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
.Strategic Air Command launches its first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile from new facilities at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Shrouded Atlas missile on trailer enters the Pine Canyon Gate of Vandenberg AFB. Trailer being backed into the Missile Assembly Building (MAB). Electronic checkout of Atlas being carried out by computerized equipment at the MAB building. Views of Hollerith 88-column punch cards being loaded into the computer equipment and tape outputs being produced. Atlas on launch pad. USAF airmen and officers at controls and consoles at SAC (Strategic Air Command) headquarters and Vandenberg air base. The order to perform a test launch is issued by SAC headquarters and received by the launch control officers at Vandenberg AFB. The Atlas missile is successfully launched. (Note: According to a Convair technician, who was there, this launch was done in cooperation with Convair Astronautics of San Diego. Although this film shows only U.S. Air force personnel, it was the Convair Test Conductor and the Convair Crew that did the countdown for the launch, which was the final step to sell the Launch Sites (A-B-C) and the Block House to the Air Force. Reportedly, Convair celebrated with a launch party afterwards, that included James Dempsey, head of Convair Astronautics.)

The City of New York fetes General Douglas MacArthur when he arrives there after being relieved of Command by President Truman. Views of the parade from viewpoint of newsreel cameramen surrounding the General's open car. Fireboats in the harbor create a huge fountain with their pumps. Trees are inundated with ticker tape.
