Two young men step out of a locomotive boiler, where they have been performing maintenance. They step down on a small ladder, closing the boiler door behind them. Closeup of a steam locomotive moving amidst smoke and steam. An engineer at the controls of the locomotive, explaining their operation to a young man in the cab, behind him. View from inside the moving locomotive of tracks ahead with other rolling stock and a building visible. A uniformed woman reaches up to the cab and receives some papers from the engineer. Next a uniformed woman is seen at the control panel for railroad signals. She moves some levers and rotates a hand crank. Simultaneously, a large railroad signal moves upward to an open position. Change of scene shows passengers boarding a passenger train from an outdoor platform. A uniformed railroad man takes a baby from a woman boarding and then walks along the platform to hand the child back to the mother, through the window of her train compartment. Final scene shows a smiling uniformed woman raising a signal paddle to release the train for movement.
