mperor Nicholas II, inspects Army officers, drivers and open staff cars, (including one with two civlilian drivers) during an inspection in World War 1. He is accompanied by military officers. The Czar wears a black band on his left uniform sleeve (sign of mourning). The parking area is muddy and mud is seen on tires and undercarriages of the military cars. (WWI; WW1)
Russian General and his staff officers walk between formations of Russian troops lined on either side of a road during World War 1. As the General reaches the end of troop formation, he stops to greet the Regiment's Priest who stands near the troops. In the next scene, the Priest blesses the Regiment, as a military band plays. He then kneels and the entire regiment follows to pray, concluding by making the sign of the cross on their chests. The next scene shows the troops massed on one side of the San River, and a boat carrying about 20 soldiers makes its way across the rapidly flowing waters, by means of a cable stretched across the river. A larger boat is seen emptied of soldiers at a landing on the opposite side. The soldiers are walking along a path up a hill. The bigger boat is seen filled with soldiers and an artillery caisson, ready to cross the river. Some soldiers water their horses in the river. Women and children line up at an army outdoor kitchen set up near what appears to be a school building. They receive food from the Army cooks. (WWI; WW1)
A confused World War 1 scene, in which German prisoners of war are mostly seated in a compound, where Russian officers stroll about and several Russian soldiers, armed with rifles and fixed bayonets act as roving guards. Two Russian medical personnel in white coats mingle amongst the prisoners as if checking on their health. Many of those walking past the camera seem to do so for the novelty of being filmed in a movie. (WWI; WW1)
A man wearing a turban (allegedly a Turkish spy) sits cross-legged on the ground. He is surrounded by Cossacks and Russian Army officers. A Cossack dressed in leather, appears to speak the man's language, and questions him, as does another officer. The turbaned man answers and gestures.
