Some rocket motor designs of 1930s and speculation about future of rocketry

Liquid Rocket motor design drawings of various pioneers in the field, from the American Rocket Society, including: Constantin Paul van Lent (aka Constantin Tselentis, aka Constantin Lent, aka Dr. Constantin Paul van Lent) 1936; Alfred Africano, 1937; Reed,1937; Wild,1938; H.F. Pierce and Nathan Carver, 1938. Slates refer to the post World War I period through about 1938, as the beginnings of rocket flight, and the immediate subsequent period as the second phase of achievement that could lead to high altitude and long range rocket missiles and even manned spaceships. Slate suggests that future of rocketry is limited only by our imagination. Next are imaginary, science fiction scenes like a science fiction movie, showing a major city, in Germany, as a rocket ship travels away from it, and eventually showing Europe, and the earth from outer space, as the rocket travels into the blackness, beyond. Slate comments about eternal longings related to human flight.

P-38 aircraft of the U.S. Army Air Forces 14th Fighter Group fly various formations over Telergma airfield in Algeria, during World War II

View from ground as two flights of four P-38 aircraft, from the USAAF 14th Fighter Group, fly overhead in formation at their base, Telergma airfield in Algeria, during World War 2. Then more are seen flying in vertical stacked formation over the field. Two land side-by-side on dusty runway. A "V" formation of P-38s flies overhead. The formation comes in over the field and individual P-38s peel off and circle to land. P-38s buzz the field in pairs, and then in flights of four.

Exchange German Prisoners of war return home to Stettin Germany, from Oran, Algeria during World War II

The Italian hospital ship, "Gradisca," arrives in Stettin harbour, in Germany, (Stettin on the Oder River, now Poland, Szczecin), during World War 2. She carries recuperating exchange German prisoners of war, back home from Oran, Algeria. They are greeted by medical staff and many well-wishers. Children run to the ship as it berths and throw flowers to the soldiers on deck. Wounded on stretchers are removed first. Then the ambulatory soldiers disembark amid warm welcome. Another steamship is seen approaching on the river. It is the Freigeleit. (Actually, this is the French ship,“Djenne,” in German possession, and it too is bringing exchange German POWs back from Oran.) German soldiers fill her upper decks. They play music on deck and celebrate their homecoming. (All the troops, congregating on their port sides, caused both the Gradisca, and the Freigeleit to list to port, somewhat, as they approach the pier.) A bouquet of flowers is raised to the deck of the Freigeleit, on a line, as she ties up. Red Cross nurses line up holding flowers, as sick or wounded soldiers are taken off the ship on stretchers. Then the remaining troops disembark and are greeted with flowers. Some troops write notes to be transmitted to loved ones. A military band plays on the pier. The soldiers board waiting railroad trains to continue their journey.
