Turkish mobilization activities in World War 1. Turkish and Bedouin Cavalry engaged in exercises. Turkish authorities have enlisted every horse and camel in Syria for the anticipated military engagement with British forces defending the Suez Canal in Egypt. Individual Cavalrymen ride their horses at a gallop, while others watch. Turkish troops of the Fourth Turkish Army in Palestine, preparing to depart. A World War 1 French soldier and his dog, seeking cover from enemy fire, run across a street in a French town. The soldier steps on a board leaning against a tall brick wall, throws his rifle over the wall and then jumps over it, himself. His dog tries to follow him, is unsuccessful on the first attempt, but succeeds on the second try in leaping to the top of the wall, and then over.

Opening slate reads,”Deutschwehr Berlin I.” (German Army Berlin I) Men in civilian clothes, but wearing German Army caps, stand behind a line of food set out in a courtyard in Berlin. Several women fill bowls of soup from a cauldron, and offer them to boys and young men, forming a line. The women, and some of the youth, wear white armbands reading “DeutschWehr.” Camera focuses on recipients balancing their soup bowls as they pass through the line.
