United States 1st Army soldiers attack a farm house near Franco-Belgian border to drive out German troops during World War II. Soldiers fire as tanks roll and bombs explode. German troops and equipment are captured by Americans.
General Eisenhower in trench coat walks with Lieutenant General William H. Simpson, Commander, U.S. 9th Army, and Major General Raymond S. McLain, Commander of its XIX Corps, on a visit to the front, in Germany, during World War II. The three Generals converse. Eisenhower smokes a cigarette, as Simpson points out something of interest. Background shows devastated war-torn areas. Next the Generals are seen in front of a battered former German Headquarters bunker, now occupied by Americans, on which an eagle and damaged relief lettering is displayed. Eisenhower and Simpson climb into a jeep displaying a circle of 5 stars on its bumper. It proceeds, followed by another jeep displaying two stars, in which, XIX Corps Commander McLain is riding. More army vehicles follow. They continue along a rutted dirt road towards more bombed out areas.
A film titled 'Activities in European theater of operations' shows gun camera films from U.S. P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang fighter planes shooting down German planes during World War II.In one, the German pilot is seen bailing out and falling away from his airplane. In another, the German plane explodes and its wing falls off. One sequence shows the German plane trying evasive maneuvers and then rolling over as the pilot bails out. His chute is seen opening moments later. Other scenes show aircraft losing wings, and one exploding into a ball of fire. One scene shows a strafing run at a steam locomotive pulling a train. The locomotive billows white smoke. Two more attacks against trains result in huge fiery explosions.
