Snow flakes blanket the Roman Forum, Colosseum and other landmarks and monuments. Several people walk on snow covered grounds in the city or Rome. People enjoy a snowball fight under the Arch of Constantine.
Allied aircraft parked at North African airbases. The British and American crews study charts and maps of Rome and mark bombing locations. Pilots and navigators board the planes. Bomber aircraft in flight. Railroad yards in Rome bombed with pinpoint precision by Allied bomber planes in broad daylight. Targets included the San Lorenzo freight yard and steel factory, the "Scalo del Littorio" on the north side of Rome, and the Ciampino airport.
The canonization of Pope Pius X in Vatican City. Nearly half a million people gather for the ceremony of canonization. A funeral carriage transports the glass casket containing the remains of Pope Pius X. Priests wearing Jerusalem Cross vestments watch the procession.
