Activities aboard USS Hancock (CV-19) in the Pacific Ocean, during World War 2. Opening scene shows remains of a General Motors TBM Avenger aircraft from Torpedo Squadron Seven (VT-7) that crashed on landing. The forward cockpit area appears intact, but behind that, the fuselage is torn off and sits separately on the flight deck. Sailors move the the tail section closer to the edge of the deck. Sailors and some flight crew stand on the deck, as the Hancock appears to be underway at high speed, judging by the water in background. Scene gets dark (underexposed) as sailors move the wreckage. Next, a crane is seen erected and lifting the main wreckage. But the load drops back down on the deck. Filming is interrupted, but picks up again, as the mobile crane carries the wreckage to the edge of the deck and drops it into the ocean.

Opening scene shows Navy TBF Avenger in slow flight with nose-high attitude, flying so close to the water that it is kicking up spray in its wake. The camera follows the course of the plane, as it passes a U.S. Independence class light aircraft carrier (CVL) in camouflage, underway in the same direction. Next, the aircraft passes an Iowa class battleship, also in camouflage paint. Next, it passes an Essex class carrier (CV) that has an aircraft taking off from its forward deck. The TBF catches up to another Iowa class battleship, and passes between the camera ship and the battleship, climbing slightly, but still very low over the water. A Portland class cruiser is seen in the background. The TBF begins to climb as it overtakes a Fletcher class destroyer in catapult configuration.

About six F6F hellcats of Navy Squadron VF7 take off from the hancock. The Hancock's horshoe symbol is visible on their tails. The Battleship USS New Jersey (BB-52) is seen off the Hancock's port side. More F6Fs take off. A pilot climbs from the cockpit of his airplane. A mechanic unscrews fasteners on the aircraft panels, and opens them.
