On Election Day, November 7, 1944, in World War 2, Americans are seen waiting patiently to vote. They stand in a long line extending down a city sidewalk next to brick and stone buildings. Views of several persons in the line. Scene shifts in flashback to the election of Woodrow Wilson, in 1912. Four men on horseback arrive at a polling place. Another travels to vote, in his 1910 Ford Model T truck. Change of time and place shows farmer arriving by horse-drawn wagon and walking to polling place past 1930s car and truck. American Expeditionary Forces newly arrived in France, getting settled, during World War I
American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) soldiers of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, in camp, after arrival in France, in World War 1. The troops, wearing campaign hats (M1912 Service hats) are seen going through a mess line, with cooks dispensing food into their individual mess kits. One soldier clowns around with a large loaf of bread. He bites a piece from it and offers the loaf to other who do likewise. American soldiers sitting on the ground, appear to be enjoying themselves as they drink from small bottles.

U.S. troops, of the American Expeditionary Forces, lined up with their gear ready to board a troop train in France, during World War 1. The train, comprising numerous boxcars, is seen underway. Then, the American troops are seen climbing down from the boxcars, some tossing their bedrolls ahead of them, at their destination. They line up in casual formation.
