A marine under a small piece of canvas on the deck reads a book. Crewman in cap and dungarees, wearing a headset, sits as lookout. Two crewmen dressed in loud shirts (for Equator-crossing Pollywog Initiation) invite another to sit for a haircut. He tells them to take off only a little, and sits in the chair. The would-be barber places a cloth around the initiate's neck and begins soaping his head with a shaving brush and mug.
