President Nixon recalls the period in 1972 when he directed an increase in food supplies which finally held the prices. He says that it is still helping in terms of what American citizens pay at the supermarkets today. Food prices have risen drastically. He says that reason for this increase in price is an unprecedented demand abroad for American farm products. He says that increase in exports will be necessary for balance of payment. He speaks about putting in effect the export controls due to rise in food prices within the country. President Nixon says that they must give higher priority to consumers within the country. He says that he has ordered the Internal Revenue Service to stop the rise in the cost of living.
