Scene shifts to soldiers standing around one of their trucks completely overturned in a ditch off a road near Fulton, Illinois. More than two dozen spectators stand above on the road embankment watching as soldiers prepare to rescue the truck. View from the embankment above, of soldiers working around the overturned truck. Next, local people are seen pulling on cable or hawser wrapped around a pulley (unseen) and thence to chain on front of the now upright truck. They move it through grass and shrubs, from the place where it fell. The steel canopy and canvas cover of the truck are flattened. But its engine, chassis, and steering wheel (manned by a driver) appear intact. A crowd watches from the road embankment in background.

Fire destroys the Miralago ballroom in the "No Man's Land" unincorporated area between Kenilworth and Wilmette in Chicago

Slate mentions "banned water." Scene is of fire engulfing the Miralago ballroom on Sheridan Road in the unincorporated area called "No Mans Land", between Kenilworth and Wilmette in Chicago, Illinois. "Villa Demetre" appears on a sign near the burning establishment. The fire is seen spreading. The windows of the Miralago ballroom burn and the intensity of the blaze increases. Firemen use a hose to direct water on the fire. On the following morning, the burnt and ice-covered ruins can be seen (The cold weather caused water from firefighting to freeze.) Cars being driven past the ice-covered ruins. View of the burnt ballrooom and damage caused by the fire. The burnt out windows covered with ice. (Note: The comment about "banned water" in the initial slate, refers to disapproval of neighboring communities, regarding No Man's Land, to the extent that Wilmette and Winnetka refused to respond when the fire was initially reported. Wilmette had previously withdrawn fire protection from this neighborhood and shut off their water supply. Evanston responded and had just controlled the fire when Kenilworth police turned off the water to the hydrant being tapped. Consequently, the fire intensified and engulfed the area. Kenilworth relented and turned the water back on and Wilmette and Winnetka joined the effort, but too late to save the Miralago.)

German internees being repatriated in 1919, after the end of World War I

Some 2000 Germans, interned at Fort Oglethorpe and Fort McPherson, are being repatriated after the end of the war, in 1919. They arrive by train at the port in Charleston, South Carolina, where they assemble with their personal belongings. They are assisted and supervised by U.S. Army soldiers. They board the USS Martha Washington transport ship. Another large ship is seen behind her at the pier. U.S. Navy officers and sailors are seen watching as the passengers board. Among the passengers are civilians who had been detained as suspected spies. They are boarding the ship with members of their families. A small child and a babe in arms are seen as well as other children. After boarding, passengers and crew line the deck of the ship. "USS Martha Washington," is clearly displayed on her side. She is seen moving slowly away from the pier and getting underway. to Germany.

Next, the convoy is seen driving down Market Street in the Village of East Palestine, Ohio, where welcoming flags and banners have been strung across the road, and local people watch from the sidewalks. Washington State Governor calls up contingent of the National Guard to maintain order in Centralia, Washington, following Armistice Day riot on November 11th, 1919

Opening scene shows some some people gathered near pieces of debris on the sidewalk outside the Roderick Hotel and a 1-cent to 1 dollar store in Centralia, Washington. This is in the wake of the Armistice Day riot in that city that took place in that city, on November 11, 1919. It involved clashes between members of the The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) union and members of the American Legion. A man steps out of a shattered and empty store front on the street. The Washington National Guard was called up by Governor Hart to restore order. Company F of the 3rd Infantry, was sent to Centralia by train on the evening of the 11th from Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. Soldiers of that Company are seen assembling and receiving orders from their officer in Centralia. Next, the soldiers begin marching as guards, on the street in front of the local police station. Some pedestrians watch from a sidewalk. A group of local people crowd together to watch something of interest in a building
