Count Basie and his orchestra members participate in a celebration of Paul Robeson’s 46th birthday and on the anniversary of the Council on African Affairs. The event is held at the 17th Regiment Armory, at 34th Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan. Basie's jazz and swing band plays and he leads his orchestra from the piano. The audience fills the hall to capacity.
Mayor F. H. La Guardia gives a speech in the Mayor's Office in City Hall. He says that any peace talk by Hitler is a sheer nonsense and there should be a complete assurance of permanent peace in all the countries including U.S. Various views of newspaper reporters as they listen and note down the speech. United States Army troops of Battery A, 217th Field Artillery Missile Battalion, 40th Artillery Group (Redstone) stationed in Germany, fire Redstone Block II tactical missile CC-2014 (carrying a TV camera) from White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico on 16 March 1960 as part of their Annual Service Practice (ASP) firing exercise. Redstone Missile takes off and advances upward. The missile leaves a trail of smoke.

Stormtroopers (brownshirt Sturmabteilung or SA) are formed up for inspection by leaders, in an Alpine field. A banner across a new road says that German labor will pave the way to freedom. Stormtroopers and spectators line a new road as an official car begins to travel it beneath the banner. The car breaks a ribbon, officially opening the new road. A stormtrooper leader stands in the car. Several cars form a motorcade filled with Stormtroopere leaders, on the new road. A motorized Cornucopia float travels the new road, along with a float of flowers and an open truck filled with local citlzens. Scenic views of mountains and valleys from the new road.
