During World War 1, Americans from various trades, including carpenters, painters, and women seamstresses, at work in an aircraft factory. Men and women work assembling Liberty aircraft engines to power DH-4 aircraft. Workers placing propellers on a row of assembled DH-4s in the factory. New DH-4s being started and tested on factory airfield. After testing, a DH-4 is painstakingly disassembled and packed for transport by train and ship to American units in France. World War I is over. Congress authorizes renewed Air Service training. U.S. airmen lined up. Airmen at training camps. Officer explains aerial photography. Men develop photographs and print and paste them into mosaics. Pilots stand in formation in front of hangar before departing for strafing training mission. New recruits stand in line in a city to register for U.S. Navy or U.S. Army service. New recruits shown include baseball star Joe Dimaggio, boxer Joe Louis, John Aspinwall Roosevelt (who was President Roosevelt's youngest son), Tyrone Power, Clark Gable, Douglas Fairbanks Junior, and Warren Pershing (son of famed General John Pershing) all seen registering to enter military service. Justice Frank Murphy of the U.S. Supreme Court is seen operating a machine gun during training. Another scene with a mass group of recruits standing and taking an oath of military service.
