Citizens of Berlin (mostly women) form bucket brigades to clean up streets and sidewalks of their city at the end of World War II in Europe

At the end of World War 2, in Europe, citizens of Berlin (mostly women) cooperate in a bucket brigade to clear rubble from their walks and streets. Lacking any machinery, they use shovels to fill buckets and pass them up the hill of debris at the base of bombed out buildings. A train passes below damaged roadway where camera is located. Camera pans to the cleanup site, where dozens of people are occupied. Closup of a man using a mason's hammer to break concrete slabs so they can be moved by hand. Women inside the walls of a demolished building, where they empty the buckets and throw the concrete slabs.

2nd Marine Division aboard transport ships headed to Tarawa, Gilbert Islands, during World War II

U.S. Marines boarding troop transport ships in World War 2. A line of the transport ships underway in the Pacific, en route to Tarawa, Gilbert Islands. The Destroyer, USS Frazier (DD-607) seen close to port, astern, with a line extending to the transport ship. A sealed packet of orders for the transport and the Marines is delivered over the line. Scene shifts to an officer briefing marines with help of a large relief map of Betio in the Tarawa atoll. The map is complete, in every detail, down to models of structures there. U.S. 2nd Marine Division begins mopping up operations during amphibious assault at Betio, Tarawa, during World War II

Marines of U.S. 2nd Marine Division moving toward the airfield on Betio, Tarawa atoll, during their amphibious assault against Japanese forces during World War 2. A Stuart M3 light tank driving rapidly at the edge of the field. A wounded marine is brought back in a jeep, under enemy fire. Back at the beachhead, a landing vehicle tracked (LVT) is seen towing several floating packages of supplies to the shore. Chaplain's assistants tend to U.S. marine dead lying on a beach. They remove on dog tag from each for registering while leaving the other for identification. Marine General Holland M.Smith, Commander of V Amphibious Corps, and Major General Julian C. Smith, Commander. 2nd Marine Division, are seen walking together and then consulting with Rear Admiral Harry W. Hill, Commander Amphibious Group Two, Fifth Amphibious Force. Marines using a bulldozer to dig Japanese defenders out of a pill box. This yields a half dozen Japanese prisoners, the first to be taken. Wounded American marines are given first aid and then seen being lowered in steel litters into landing craft and then being transferred to a transport ship, offshore.
