October 29, 1954, General Maxwell B. Taylor, Commander of the U.S. 8th Army, in Korea, escorts a South Korean diplomat up the stairs to a reviewing stand. A color guard is seen and then a view of the Korean representative, General Taylor, and Major General Charles D.W. Canham, Commander of the Third U.S. Infantry Division, saluting as soldiers of the 3rd Division begin marching in review. Camera focuses on the seated Army band, playing for the marchers. Soldiers of the 3rd Division are seen passing behind the band, carrying their Duffel bags and other belongings on their way to board the U.S. Navy transport ship USS General M. B. Stewart (AP-140) which would take them home to the USA. The next scene shows 3rd Division soldiers leaving the the USS M.B. Stewart at New Orleans, Louisiana. A huge banner hangs on a port building welcoming the Division. American troops with massed flags stand with Audie Murphy, on a bunting covered porch to welcome the returning 3rd Division troops. An Army marching band plays as they parade across the dock. Several motorcycle policemen lead a parade or the returning troops along the streets of New Orleans. Scene shifts to Master Sergeant Queen at the filming location for the Army production, "The Big Picture." Audie Murphy is with him, and praises the Army's 3rd Infantry Division, noting that he had served as one of its soldiers.
Rescuers working to find survivors and bodies after avalanches in Bludentz Austria and other areas
Damage due to avalanches in the Alpine nations of Europe, much in Austria including Bludenz which occurred on January 13, 1954. Several villages are destroyed and many people are killed and injured. U.S. helicopters hovering over the area. Destroyed houses and buildings. The rescue workers working to take out the dead bodies and some survivors from the snow. They shovel the snow. A wrecked train covered with snow on the mountain side. Rotary snowplow on a locomotive used to clear tracks in rescue area. Survivors from train shown rescued 80 hours after event.

An injured Guatemalan soldier is evacuated by air from a rural airport in Guatemala
Camera focuses on a 1954 Chevrolet ambulance as it approaches, driving across an airfield in Guatemala. It pulls up next to a Guatemalan Air Force DC-3 aircraft, where it is met by several Guatemalan soldiers. One of them converses with the pilot, who is wearing a flight suit. The camera shifts focus, momentarily, to a North American T-6 aircraft taxiing onto the runway for takeoff. Then it focuses, again, on the soldiers , ambulance, and parked DC-3 aircraft. As the pilot approaches the ambulance, several soldiers remove a patient on a litter and carry it to the door of the aircraft, where they place it on the ground and assist the patient to climb a few steps up and into the aircraft cabin. He holds up his right leg, which is bandaged, as he is helped by a crew member. Scene shifts to view from the aircraft cockpit as it departs from the airfield and proceeds over rugged hilly countryside. Aerial view of buildings in a town on the water. More views of fairly barren land below. View is interrupted and then resumes with more aerial views from the aircraft cockpit. Pilots are seen in the cockpit. The remainder of the film shows aerial views of Guatemala City (probably the destination of this air evacuation mission).
Chinese prisoners from Korean War defect to Taiwan (Republic of China).
Former communist Chinese prisoners repatriated from Korean War prison camps arrive in Taipei, Taiwan, becoming "anti-Communist Heroes" January 23, 1954. Crowd gathered outside a large building in Taipei. A large freedom bell is rung. Chairman of the gathering and Premier of the Republic of China Chen Cheng addresses the crowd. The crowd with banners demonstrates against communism and against mainland People's Republic of China. South Korean ambassador to China (Taiwan), Kim Hong-il, addresses the gathering. Men in special white uniforms lined up are the first group of liberated, defecting former prisoners. The Map of Korea shows 38th parallel on it. The United Nations and the U.S. flags. American C-119 Flying Boxcar aircraft in flight over airfield, arriving in Korean. Chinese officers march on airfield after leaving planes, before transporting to Taiwan.
