U.S. soldiers lower and fold up a flag of the Kingdom of Italy, from atop a tower overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, at Cape Rasocolmo, Sicily, Italy, 15 km from Messina, during World War 2. They examine a large searchlight mounted on a tracked vehicle. They rotate it. The American soldiers uncover a grass camouflaged listening device (used to locate planes before the invention of the radar). A U.S. Army Sergeant occupies the operator's position and checks its movement controls. Soldiers pull grass camouflaging another large piece of equipment related to artillery (perhaps a type of radar). Scene shifts to view from hills overlooking the waterfront with town and port facilities. An American soldier takes photographs of the scene. Sequence shifts to views from a boat (unseen) moving slowly in the water off the coast. Buildings seen perched on the hillside and summit. Unusually shaped rock formations in the water at base of the cliffs. View from hilltop, of farmland in valley below.

A German soldier at the front in the area of Monte Cassino, reads military news entitled, "South Front" which contains news about the battle of Monte Cassino, in Italy during World War 2. The high hill known as Monte Cassino and the Monastery located there are seen in the background. German troops are seen hidden among foliage at the base of the hill. One is hunkered down behind an M-42 machine gun equipped with a tripod. Glimpse of troops in trench, conversing. Next, American aircraft (too far away to see) begin bombing the Monte Cassino hilltop and Monastery. Numerous explosions are seen and heard as the bombs explode. A German soldier jumps over a stone wall to find better protection. German soldier observes through binoculars. At a campsite, where some clothes are drying in the background, Several German officers consult maps and discuss their plans. German infantry move into new positions at the base of the hill. One fires short bursts from an M-42 machine gun. Others fire their rifles. One uses a Schiessbecher to fire a rocket propelled grenade with his rifle. As they advance further, they come upon the bodies of several dead American soldiers. They capture an American soldier and disarm him. They capture several more American soldiers and march them back from the front. German officers interrogate the captured soldiers. Finger points at a location on an area map. German artillery then fires at that position. Artillery officers use periscopic binoculars to monitor the targeting. German artillery shells burst in a valley below the Monte Cassino hill.
Armed Italian Partisans escort several Italian Fascist officials, who walk with their hands raised along a street in Ivrea, Northern Italy, during final days of World War 2, in Europe. Local citizens walk along beside and behind them, including some on bicycles. Another scene shows Italian Partisans escorting several soldiers, of the Italian National Republican Army, with their hands on their heads. This group is also followed by a large number of local citizens. Scene shifts to an American jeep carrying an officer and two U.S. soldiers. It is followed by an automobile, seen, later parked with another near a sidewalk, where several Italian Republican Army officers are conversing cordially with American soldiers of the U.S. 92nd Infantry Division.(By May 5, 1945, all Nazi German forces in Italy, had capitulated.) Italian women and children seen in a small open bus.
