Crowd gathered in front of the Jailhouse in San Jose, California, where a mob of thousands had broken in and seized prisoners Thomas Thurmond and John Holmes, who had reportedly confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Brooke Hart, son of Alexander Hart, the owner of Leopold Hart and Son Department Store. The mob had taken the two and lynched them, in St. James Park, across the street. Under-sheriff Hamilton, is interviewed and states that they held the mob off until they ran out of tear gas, and then didn't shoot, because of women and children. One of the prison inmates, testifies about seeing the mob break into the prison and make their way to the third floor.
