On the German Western Front in World War II a group of German troops bury the two-person crew of a French airplane that was shot down on September 11, 1939. The funeral, which takes place in Saarbrücken, is conducted with full military honors. The two French pilots were Lieutenant Jean Sueur and Captain Jacques Rosignol of 2 Escadrille de Reconnaissance 551. Each headstone is shown with the airman's hat on top. German soldiers place wreathes on the caskets and lower them into the ground. A large group of German soldiers, including a German military chaplain, are shown saluting the dead Frenchmen.
Adolf Hitler, dressed in white tie and tails tuxedo, together with other dignitaries, also dressed in high formal fashion. They are coming out on the balcony of the Bayreuth Opera House, perhaps during an intermission. Crowds outside recognize and acknowledge Hitler, with calls of "Heil" and some an anglicized "hail."
