During World War 2, while stationed at NAS Kaneohe, Hawaii, U.S. Navy F4Fs of Fighting Squadron Three (VF-3) are seen making a series of attack passes for a camera mounted in an airplane in flight. They demonstrate attack maneuvers singly and in pairs.

Standing in front of an F4F with its engine running and the plane captain in its cockpit, Lieutenant Commander John S. Thach, Commander of Navy Fighting Squadron Three (VF-3) discusses a planned flight with Lieutenant Edward "Butch" O'Hare, as they look over a map. (This sequence is repeated again for the camera.) LCDR Thach boards his aircraft, as plane captain steps out of cockpit and stows his map. Thach's plane has 3 Japanese victory flags painted below the cockpit. The Squadron's Felix-the-Cat logo is seen on the fuselage.The plane captain helps Thach get strapped in and settled in the cockpit. Thach gives a thumbs up indicating he is ready. Lt. O'Hare climbs aboard his F4F, which displays 5 Japanese victory flags. (O'Hare is the U.S. Navy's first air ace of World War 2.) The film 'Sea power in the Pacific' showing Japanese dominance in China and at start of World War 2. Then it chronicles U.S. efforts to build Navy and fight back on sea and in the air. Opening scene shows Japanese Mitsubishi G3M (Type 96) bombers high overhead, and then closeup in formation. View from bomber of bomb bays open with bombs falling and view from ground of explosions and destruction. Overlay on film says: "China---1931." (This is not correct. The G3M bomber was not yet in service.) This film depicts Japanese attacks during second Sino-Japanese War, commencing 1937, Chinese civilians running to escape Japanese bombing of Singapore. Buildings destroyed and on fire. Next, Japanese troops, carrying the Rising Sun flag, are seen establishing a beachhead in an Amphibious assault. More scenes of Japanese infantry advancing through Singapore, ad it is being destroyed and burned. Soldiers charging along an alleyway, with pagoda in background. Next, Japanese soldiers are seen attacking Nanking, and committing atrocities during the so-called "Rape of Nanking," in December, 1937. Chinese civilians being summarily shot and dumped into a large open grave. Two Chinese prisoners with hands bound, being executed by rifle fire. Jubilant Japanese troops celebrating their victory. Map shows areas of China occupied during second Sino-Japanese war and the East Indies to the South. View of oil tanks; an open pit tin mine; a native cutting rubber tree bark to collect latex. LCDR John S. Thach, Commander of Navy Fighting Squadron Three (VF-3) is seen flying his F4F (number: F-1) with his wingman, Lt. Edward O'Hare,who is flying F4F number F-13. They fly over Hawaii and environs, with their canopies open. Thach is seen clearly in his cockpit. A change of sequence suddenly shows O'hare flying lead, with Thach flying on his wing. There appear to be only 4 Japanese victory flags painted on O'Hare's airplane. (Note: Lt. O'Hare was the U.S. Navy's first ace, shooting down 5 Japanese aircraft, in World War 2, and was a Medal of Honor recipient.)

Sesquicentennial celebration of Captain Cook's discovery of Hawaii: (1778-1928) held in the Hawaiian Islands, August 15 to 21, 1928. Monmouth-class British armored cruiser underway en route to Hawaii. Royal Hawaiian flag draped on tripod of submerged tablet, marking the site of Cook's demise. (The inscription reads: "Near this spot Captain James Cook, R.N., was killed, Feb. 14, 1779.") Smoke seen rising from naval guns on the British cruiser, in Kealakekua Bay, off coast of Hawaii, firing 21-gun salute. Camera pans over to the battleship, USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) also firing her guns in salute. A group of British buglers plays "The Last Post," during the ceremony. U.S. Secretary of War, Dwight F. Davis and Territorial Governor of Hawaii, Wallace R. Farrington, step into a Hawaiian outrigger canoe for a short trip across the bay. Next they are seen stepping from the canoe, to a Navy launch tied at the dock in Napoopoo, and thence to the dock, itself. Change of scene shows Secretary Davis and Governor Farrington, with many other dinner guests at a traditional Hawaiian Luau meal with many foods. There Secretary Davis is also seen delivering remarks to the gathering.

Railroad scene on Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, at Kalihi-Kai just east of the Libby cannery and west of the old Oahu Prison. World War Two "blackout" headlights can be seen. The first locomotive is OR&L No. 39 with three gondolas. The second is OR&L No. 34 with boxcars and the third OR&L No. 32 with a train of boxcars and pineapple cars. Brakemen and Conductor shown riding on top of cars. (The OR&L did have three cabooses, but they were not popular with the crews.)
